Hello Class, Hope everyone is doing well; only three weeks left! This week, we are covering the main IT- based developments in the networked e- business domain that are related to the various technology classes. The Big Five are a huge part of this. But what are the Big Five? The Big Five are social media, mobile computing, cloud computing, big data, and the internet of things (IoT) (Grefen, 2016). Social Media: Uses the basic infrastructure of the internet. As we all know, social media has changed and become a monolith in the past decade. E-businesses have taken advantage of this platform for marketing, sales, and reviews. Mobile Computing: This is always changing whether it’s the software or hardware. It used to be primarily laptops. But with innovation and technology advancements, we have cell phones and tablets that can do almost everything a computer can. Cloud Computing: Has brought things to the forefront of technology. E-businesses being able to save money on purchasing their own servers, can contract with larger companies to use their “clouds” (servers).
Big Data: Places emphasis on performance and security. This area has a large portion of customer’s private information, and also gathering data on customer so that ads and marketing can be more targeted. The Internet of Things: It’s huge and covers many things like the automation ordering, addressing, shipping, and tracking. Hopefully, this helps to give a better understanding of the Big Five and the main IT- based developments in the networked e- business domain that are related to the various technology classes.
