This week’s discussion on the main business directions and operations related to networked e-business was another interesting topic for me. Starting with the three main business drivers of reach, richness, and efficiency, we can determine the main business directions and operations of a networked e- business (Grefen, 2016). Reach is straightforward, as it applies to the availability and accessibility of the applications in e- business. Richness refers to the relationship between the business and the customer and the transition between physical and digital segments of networked e-business (Grefen, 2016). A great example of reach and richness working hand in hand is the Domino’s pizza app. Providing tracking, ordering, payment, and availability to the customer and business relationship. Efficiency simply refers to the cost and time of a scenario in e-business. Looking at reach and efficiency working together, another driver today would be social media. In 2018, a study showed that 55% of customers buying products were doing so after finding them on social media (Wong, 2018). I can only guess that that percentage has grown after the pandemic and more social media applications becoming available. Once reach, richness, and efficiency have been operationalized, it propels the e-business into the direction they have mapped out. Synchronization between business, process, and data is instrumental to a successful inter-organization relationship (Grefen, 2016). Managing contracts and trust between businesses is the focus of business state synchronization. Ensuring that the same view of progress is kept between organizations and that correct data is passed between them keeps that process and data states in sync.
