PROJECT PART 1 SUBMISSION In this part you will complete the first three steps of the Classic Software Design Life Cycle. Be prepared to present your completed ERD and OLTP strategy. Submit a copy of your work in Microsoft Word or PDF format, include your Group Name and Members on a covers sheet, a full page graphic of your completed ERD, Report of your information gathering and analysis process 1-2 pages, and some sample Analytical Questions over the data you come up with that will require a warehouse and OLAP to answer. (Alternatively, your group may choose a different large data set to work with, get instructor approval if you choose this option.) Additionally, each member must complete the team and self-evaluation form. RESOURCES. You may also use your own resources to complete the project. OBJECTIVES 1) Requirements Gathering Review the NYC Taxi Commission web site for the data extracts, in csv format, for your group (Yellow, Green, FHV). There is a data dictionary as well which will provide insight into coded values in some of the fields in the csv file. Additionally, there are Taxi Zone Maps and Lookup tables that may also prove useful in your database design. 2) Analysis Consider the process of deconstructing the csv into tables as a normalization problem. You will want to break down the data so as to conform to 3 rd normal form as best as possible. 3) Design Create an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) to illustrate your database design. See the next page for example ERD 4) Implementation Create your database design and populate the tables with 1 year’s worth of data from the web site csv file for your group (Yellow, Green, FHV). For data that is not available such as drivers / clients you can create faked data to fill this in, see Mockaroo https://mockaroo.com for ideas on how to populate fake/random data.
