Running Head: DIMENSIONS OF NETWORKED e-BUSINESS 2 Dimensions of Networked e-Business In the past 20 years or so, businesses have made dramatic changes to how they interact with their consumers. Going to brick-and-mortar stores are is optional in this day and age. Businesses have integrated with or completely shifted to the online business platform. (Deull, 2022). The organizations that have started utilizing the internet to conduct transactions and business are categorized as electronic businesses (e-Business). Utilizing online networks, e- businesses can use consumer’s access to the internet to sell and buy products and services with a few clicks of a button. Three dimensions encapsulate arranged e-business perfectly. The three dimensions cover the parties involved, the object being acquired, and the time involved with the transaction. e-Business The rise of internet purchasing power has stretched consumer loyalty to in-person transactions to the limit. As the title implies, E-business is business done electronically via the internet. Exchanging capital for products or services online. "The electronic execution of all exchanges supporting trade among purchasers, suppliers, and other outsider go- betweens." (Tovstiga & Fantner, 2000). The business model has been heavily influenced by e- business, including virtual banking. With the advancement of the internet and e-business capabilities, many organizations have shifted to becoming e-organizations entirely. The Dimensions These days, individuals utilize e-business on a regular basis and don’t even give it a second thought. E-business has many variations but can broken down into three separate categories or descriptions that make it easy to understand. The three dimensions describe characteristics of e-business scenarios that are in principle mutually independent.” (Grefen, 2016). 1. Parties in networked e-business: This dimension covers the various parties that can be represented in an e-business scenario. Business-to-consumer (B2C), business-to-business (B2B), business-to-government (B2G), government-to-business (G2B), and consumer-to- consumer (C2C) are the most common party combinations in e-business. (Grefen, 2016). 2. Objects of networked e-business: This dimension describes the objects being exchanged. These objects are divided into five categories: physical, digital, services, financial, and hybrid. Physical goods have always been a part of the business exchange. These are items that are tangible and physically exchanged. Digital goods are intangible things like MP3s or electronic reports. Services are actions one party performs for the other, like transportation or cleaning. Financial goods are the money that will be exchanged or the guarantee that it will be paid at a later time. Hybrid objects are combinations of other objects. (Grefen, 2016). An example would be the purchase of a boat and then the maintenance continually performed for it. 3. Time scopes of networked e-business: As the name implies, time scope refers to the amount of time involved with the e-business collaboration. The time scope dimension is divided into four subcategories: static, semi-dynamic, dynamic, and ultra-dynamic. (Grefen, 2016). The static time scope represents the long-standing or long-lasting collaboration between the parties. Semi-dynamic is when the collaborations change every so often between parties. Dynamic time scope defines when a party collaborates with another when the activity is needed. Partners change regularly; an example would be with which transportation carriers are being utilized based on price and speed of delivery.

A good example would be booking a vacation, including a hotel, flight, and rental car. It can change if the individual decides to stay with a friend and cancels the hotel or the rental car is no longer needed. (Grefen, 2016). Conclusion In a time when e-business has been the platform that organizations are moving to and expanding on, it is essential to understand its variables and parameters. While it may not be something the average consumer has to consider when making a purchase, a business has to keep in mind the three dimensions and all they encompass. The various combinations of the parties, such as B2B, B2C, B2G, G2B and C2C. The objects that could be traded, tangible or intangible. Also, the time that is involved with the exchange. All of these aspects are key to running a business smoothly and efficiently.
