Hady A. Nunez Epidemiology Professor Cifuentes Summary 4 Experimental Studies An experimental study is the way of researchers to look for answers of the unknown. It is also based on gathering enough information to support the investigation done by them. This type of study can be a randomized trial and also manipulate the study factor. Each of the experimental trial are classified different because it can give a different effect to the study. A randomized clinical trial is basically used medically because it can provide to the investigators the exposures or treatments of the disease. There are several types of randomized clinical trials: screening trials, preventions, treatment and community trials. Each of these trials have a different approach. For example, the prevention trials are based on medicines and are used to look for options to prevent the disease or options to avoid it. A clinical trial has 5 stages and each of the stages are in charge of something while the trial is conducted. The stage 1 focuses in the drug metabolism, stage 2, improve of the treatments, stage 3, way to improves health, and stage 5 the benefit and cost of the treatments. Moreover, some of the slides covers the way randomized trials are use in medicines and how it is implemented in the population. According to the slides these studies are usually done by comparing doses of the treatment to check the different in the results. The way that these studies are analyzed is by simply obtaining the participants information study the active groups with compliers and non-compliers each of these with their outcomes. And also, by comparing each of the groups and their compliers and non-compliers outcomes. There are two
way of analysis and primary and secondary. The primary focus on the intention to treat the analysis is. The secondary analysis focuses in the compliers. Moreover, in an experimental study there are crossover design which is basically a plan of how the patient may receive the treatment. This crossover can be planned or unplanned but both of them have the same goal. According to the book in order to conduct an epidemiological study you need to have a clear definition of the case and the type of disease you are investigating. It basically means that you need to have as much of information as you can that can help you investigate and obtain better results.
