Hady A. Nunez Epidemiology Assignment 1 Definition and Determinant What is epidemiology During this class Professor Cifuentes spoke about the syllabus also he explained the definition of epidemiology and what it does. Epidemiology study distribution and determinant of a disease by quantify the human problem, identify it, improve clinical and public health recommendation and also evaluate the continue education in the field. Epidemiology is based a lot in risk and research of the diseases it also data driven and relies on a systematic and unbiased approach to the collection. During this class professor also explain that epidemiologic is also based on methods that relies on careful observation and use for comparison. We also understood that epidemiology is not only based of numbers of health event which gives a relationship to the population. The epidemiology keys of definition which cover determinant, population, distribution, morbidity and mortality. The determinants are factors that are capable of bringing any change in health. When epidemiology is used to search for determinants to estimate the right accumulation of risk factors the disease may has. Epidemiologist uses why and how to describe the event of the disease by doing this they can see the differences of each groups that the disease may has.
For this class we also cover some of the book chapters which also explain what epidemiology is and what is based one. Based in my current understanding epidemiology is to understand the causes of disease variation and limit disease, injury and death in a community by intervening to prevent or limit outbreaks or epidemics of disease and injury. It also provides enough evidence for measuring environmental risk to humans. Moreover, it allows public health professionals to organize, analyze and be able to understand the major of the health problems. The basic design strategies applied in epidemiological research can be generally categorized according to whether such investigations focus on reporting the distributions of disease or elucidating its determinants. All study designs involve descriptive and analytical type of comparison of exposure and disease status. Descriptive epidemiology focuses on the general characteristics of the distribution of a disease. Analytical epidemiology focuses on the determinants of a disease by testing the hypothesis formulated from descriptive studies to check whether a particular exposure causes or prevents disease.
