Hady A. Nunez Epidemiology Assignment 7 Class October 30, 2018 During this class we were able to answer last week topic quiz. The quiz was based about what we covered last week about measurement and understanding of values. Half of the class we covered the quiz and we discussed the questions and our answers. Later we divided and groups and continue working in how the formula are use during the studies. While we were working in group, we were able to discuss more about how to understand the formula and how we can obtain the risk results. I can see that in order for you to obtain these risks result you need to have enough information that support your answer and that can help you obtain the right hypothesis. Because if we have a disease but don’t have enough data to support it, we are not able to know what we are looking for to formulate the measurement to create the cohort study. Understanding the data is a little of bit tricky because we need to have the right number of cases and the right number of population and the right number of exposures. I would say that by knowing the right measurement you will also obtain how the disease happened, when, where they happen. That’s why it’s so important to have the right amount of information so you can create the study. Professor Cifuentes also explained about the odd ratio and proportions. Which is basic part of the measurements for the study. I also kind of understood that epidemiology has various
measurement methods which each of them impact in different way the study. Each of these methods has its purpose and disadvantages. During this class professor explained more how the prevalence consists during the process of the measurement. For my personal understanding from this class I can say that prevalence is the better figure for defining the scope of a particular problem or disease. Professor created some examples by using excel to imply the formula and the data. Doing this example, he explained also how the standard deviation can be a little of bit hard to understand at first even though, it just basically is the square root of its inconsistency. I noticed that in class mention about standard deviation and how it can varies depend of the sample size and its movements. Moreover, during this class, I was able to understand a little of bit more how the measurement works and how to do the formula to obtain the result for my study.
