Hady A. Nunez Epidemiology Professor Cifuentes Summary class 3 Epidemiology Design During this class we were able to talk more about what epidemiology design and hypothesis mean in a research study. An epidemiology design is basically what type of research and the type of strategies that it uses. In most of a descriptive study design the hypotheses is use analytic however there are some studies that incorporate differently. There are different types of studies they can be experimental, cohort/ case control studies, cross- sectional and ecological studies. Each of these studies are used in different ways and you can obtain different results from each. In an experimental studies researcher obtain the final results by doing several controlled trials. Unfortunately, in this type of study they rarely can obtain prove of how things happened. Cohort studies are considering the best design because they can be well done, and the uses of comparison are minimal. Compared to a case study where researchers have to use several forms of comparison. In a cross-sectional study, they have to use evidence that include a time frame sequence by using this it gives a different effect of the collected data. Ecological studies are considered the weakest studies because they can provide the wrong data. According to the slides provided by professor Cifuentes the cross sectionals studies is based on the population of interested meaning the type of population that the study is based on. A sample of the explosion of the population and sample of those that have not being exposed. With these samples’ researchers can determined the risk of the population getting exposed. Let’s not forget

that in a cross sectionals study research measure the disease by using prevalence this is just the meaning of examine a small portion of the exposure population. In a cross-sectional studies researcher used surveys which include data with the outcome of the individuals and also time of each of it. Moreover, in the PowerPoint explained the use of hypotheses in epidemiology. Which basically refer that a hypothesis cover time, place and person used during the study. The hypotheses can be at the beginning of the study or at the end of it and it gives more details of the person in the study or the places where the study is being done.
