Expert Solution

William III created an advisory council for the English government in May 1696 to take the position of the Lords of Trade (1675) in charge of the affairs of the colony. This was the Board of Trade. It was tasked with reviewing colonial legislation, recommending that any laws that went against trade policies of the Empire be disallowed, nominating governors and other high-ranking officials, writing instructions for newly appointed governors, recommending laws that affected their colonies, and hearing and reporting on issues from the colonies about imperial administration.
