The next table gives data for a 2 × 2 factorial experiment with two observations per factor-level combination.
Identify the treatments for this experiment. Calculate and plot the treatment means, using the response variable as the y-axis and the levels of factor B as the x-axis. Use the levels of factor A as plotting symbols. Do the treatment means appear to differ? Do the factors appear to interact?
Use the computational formulas in Appendix C to create an ANOVA table for this experiment.
Test to determine whether the treatment means differ at the α = .05 level of significance. Does the test support your visual interpretation from part a?
Does the result of the test in part b warrant a test for interaction between the two factors? If so. perform it using α = .05.
Do the results of the previous tests warrant tests of the two factor main effects? If so, perform them using α = .05. Yes.
Interpret the results of the tests. Do they support your visual interpretation from part a?
Given the results of your tests, which pairs of means, if any, should be compared?

- What is an experiment?arrow_forwardA test was conducted of two overnight mail delivery services. Two samples of identical deliveries were set up so that both delivery services were notified of the need for a delivery at the same time. The hours required to make each delivery follow. Do the data shown suggest a difference in the delivery times for the two services? Use a .05 le of significance for the test. Use Table 1 of Appendix B. If required, round your answer to two decimal places. .7642 Conclude:arrow_forwardA source table has the following information: Three treatment conditions with a sample of n =7 participants in each treatment. You know SS(BW) = 20 and MS(WI) = 2. What is the missing value for MS(BW)? Answer choices: 40, 10, 2, 5 You have an ANOVA source table with the following information: Three treatment groups with a sample of n = 10 participants in each treatment. You also know the SS(BW) =20 and F = 5.00. What is the missing value for SS(Total)? Answer choices: 74, 54, 30, 22 For an experiment involving 2 levels of factor A and 3 levels of factor B with a sample of n = 5 in each treatment condition, what is the value for df(WI)? - A recruiter at Salisbury University is interested in comparing the percentages of high school seniors who plan to go to college in two different regions of the country. The boxplots of the distributions of the percentages of seniors who plan to go to college are shown below. Compare the distributions of the percentages of seniors who plan to go to college in the two regions. The recruiter combined the data from the two regions to produce a single histogram. Describe the shape of the distribution of the combined data.arrow_forwardFor each scenario listed on the left, determine whether the scenario represents an Independent Samples or Dependent/Paired Samples situation by placing the appropriate letter in the box provided. Boston.com reports that in the first 10 months of 2012 on-time arrival rates at U.S. airports were the highest they have been since 2003. During this period 82% of flights landed within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Are there differences among the major airlines? The data in Sheet 35 show the number of on-time arrivals for samples of flight taken from seven major U.S. airlines in 2012. Using a 0.05 level of significance, what is the p-value and what is your conclusion? - What causes us to overeat? One surprising factor might be the material of the plate on which our food is served. Williamson, Block, and Keller (2016) gave participants two donuts each and measured the amount of food that was wasted by each participant. In an independent-samples design, participants received their donuts either on a disposable paper plate or on a reusable plastic plate. Data like those observed by the authors are listed below. Paper Plate (Grams of Wasted Food) Plastic Plate (Grams of Wasted Food) 37 34 35 31 34 36 36 30 40 34 34 33 33 37 39 29 Test the hypothesis that participants who received donuts on a paper plate wasted more food than participants who were served donuts on a plastic, reusable plate. Use , two-tailed. Construct a 95% confidence interval to estimate the size of the mean difference. Write the results as they would appear in a scientific journal article.arrow_forwardA pharmaceutical company is testing the effectiveness of a new drug for lowering cholesterol.
