Chapter 6.SE, Problem 49AP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Given that reaction of 2-methylpropene with HBr, in principle, might lead to a mixture of two alkyl bromides as products. The name and structure of the two alkyl bromides are to be given.

Concept introduction:

In electrophilic addition reactions the first step is the attack of the π electrons of the double bond on the positively polarized hydrogen on the hydrogen halide to produce a more stable carbocation. In the second step the carbocation produced reacts with the halide ion to yield the final product.

To identify:

The name and structure of the two alkyl bromides which might result in the reaction of 2-methylpropene with HBr.
