Summary Introduction

To think critically about: Difference of WBS and Project Networks

Introduction:

Projects generally consists of 3 different aspects. The success of the project can easily be assessed within these dimensions. The application and collaboration are to be explored.

Explanation of Solution

The project network is a tool used in the scheduling, planning and monitoring project progress. The project network collects data for the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), the project plan is also a graphic flow chart of the project job plan. The project network provides information such as labor scheduling and apparatus. The project network provides the base layout for majority of the planning and procedures which are to be used later on in the project. The project network is also regarded as three-quarters of the planning process done within the project.

The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) consists of hierarchical structural breakdown which presents the key deliverables of the project in determining the project outcome. The WBS framework acts as a tracking tool as it helps the organization identify project progress.

The WBS presents the key deliverables within the project whereas the project network provides a sequential set of activities and proceeding activities to follow through. The WBS shows which organizational unit is held responsible for the accomplishment of the task within the budget and time.

Conclusion

The differences have been contracts as to the purpose being served by both the WBS and the project network. The two concepts have two purposes, where the WBS is concerned; it is to analyze hierarchical project deliverables.
