Bartel’s research group is a lab at the University of California that mainly carries out research on RNA (ribonucleic acid) molecules. RNA is an intermediate molecule produced after DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) transcribes. The RNA molecule further translates the information stored in it to form proteins. Ribozymes are RNA molecules that have enzymatic properties and are considered as living entities.
