Chapter 39.2, Problem 2RIA
Summary Introduction
In general, arthropod-borne diseases are caused by viruses and protozoa, which are comparatively more than bacteria do. Lyme disease (LD) is a tick-borne zoonosis in the United States. The strategies that are more effective in preventing Lyme disease includes domestic protection like environmental modifications (clearing and burning tick habitat) and usage of acaricidal compounds, which may completely destroy and reduce the population of ticks and mites. Moreover, the risk of getting LD might be greatly reduced by practising self-hygiene (wearing protective clothing and using insect repellent) and health education (how to manage bite effectively and how to avoid being bitten by ticks).
