In general, arthropod-borne diseases are caused by viruses and protozoa, which are comparatively more than bacteria do. Lyme disease (LD) is a tick-borne zoonosis in the United States. In Europe, other spirochete species like Borrelia garinii and Borrelia afzelii are found to be responsible for the disease.
