Concept explainers
The way, energy is conserved when an atom absorbs a photon of light.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Light is emitted in the form of packets or the bundles known as photons. The energy of photon is proportional to frequency of photon.
When atom absorbs photon of light, it gets excited to higher energy state. The electrons in the atom get excited from ground state to higher energy state. Such state of an atom is called excited atom.
Conclusion:
The atom conserves energy of incident photon by moving to higher energy state.
