Concept explainers
To Choose: The correct option.
Answer to Problem 1STP
Option B
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Rutherford directed high energy streams of alpha-particles at a thin gold foil. In order to study the deflection, he used zinc sulfide screen.
Based on Rutherford’s experiment, nuclear model was formed. As per Rutherford’s nuclear model, the positively charged part and majority of the mass of the atom are concentrated in a very small volume called nucleus. Rutherford also suggested that the negatively charged particles, electrons are present around the nucleus. Majority of the space in an atom is empty.
Conclusion:
Thus, option B is correct.
