Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The type of emission spectrum such as line and band spectra can explain the phenomenon.
Incandescent solids give band/continuous spectrum, whereas gaseous atom gives line spectrum.
Line spectrum | Band spectrum |
1. Sharp distinct lines. 2. Also called atomic spectrum. 3. Occur due to transition of electrons in atom. | 1. Close lines with continuous band. 2. Also called molecular spectrum. 3. Occur due to vibrational and rotational energy changes. |
Common features of both spectra are:-
- Produced by emission of
radiation . - Have bright lines on dark background.
Conclusion:
Incandescent solids give band/continuous spectrum, whereas gaseous atom gives line spectrum.
