Concept Introduction:
Band theory:
The last and the completely filled band are called – valence band.
The next band with higher energy is called – conduction band.
The energy difference between the bottom of the conduction band and the top of the valence band is called band gap or forbidden gap.
In conductors there is no forbidden gap. But in insulators the band gap is larger compared to semiconductors and the conductors.
