Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The different structures of cephalins should be drawn that contains oleic acid and palmitic acid as fatty acid side chains.
Concept Introduction:
The second most abundant type of lipid is the Phosphoacylglycerols it is also known as phosphoglycerides.
The general structure of Phosphoacylglycerols is like the triacylglycerols with an important difference. Only two of the hydroxyl l groups of glycerol are combined with fatty acids and formed esters. The remaining third OH group is part of a phosphodiester and it is always bonded to an alkyl group (R") derived from low molecular weight alcohol. When R// group is CH3CH2NH3+, it is known as cephalin or phosphatidylethanolamine.
