Answer to Problem 35A
When an atom is oxidized, it loses its electrons and converts into cation
When an atom is reduced, it accepts some electrons and converts intoanion.
Explanation of Solution
The species which undergo oxidation is said to be oxidized and which undergo reduction is said to be reduced. Oxidation is the loss of electrons and reduction is the gain of electrons.
Thus when an atom is oxidized, its electrons are lost and when an atom is reduced, it accepts some electrons.
When an atom is oxidized, it loses its electrons and converts into cation whereas an atom is reduced, it accepts some electrons and converts into anion.
