To determine the ferritin and transferrin receptor gene expression in the human skin cells by using the northern blotting technique, in the presence of low and high concentration of iron and the DNA probe complementary to ferritin mRNA and transferrin receptor.

Introduction:

Northern blotting is the technique used to study the gene expression i.e. RNA transcribed from the gene by the detection of RNA from the sample. In this technique, the RNA sample is separated by using gel electrophoresis; on the basis of their size, the separated RNA fragments are treated with radiolabeled DNA probes. The DNA probe binds to the complementary RNA on the gel which can be visualized by autoradiography.
