Concept explainers
A scientific study demonstrated that rat mothering behavior impacts the stress response in their pups. Rats that were born and grew up with attentive mothers showed low activation of stress-response genes later in life, while rats with inattentive mothers had high activation of stress-response genes in the same situation. An additional study that swapped the pups at birth (i.e., rats born to inattentive mothers grew up with attentive mothers and vice versa) showed the same positive effect of attentive mothering. How do genetics and/or epigenetics explain the results of this study?

- Based on the data given in picture, Compare the number of dominant behaviors of Focal Males(crayfish) towards Intruder Males(crayfish) vs number of dominant behaviors of Octopamine Injected Focal Males(crayfish) towards Intruder Males(crayfish).arrow_forwardHow does tail docking affective the stress level and overall behavior in horses? or is there no change. Please be specificarrow_forwardOxytocin is a reproductive hormone associated with parturition and lactation. A research study examined the blood serum levels of oxytocin in patients who have Type 2 diabetes and those with normal blood glucose levels. Each group was then subdivided into normal weight patients and obese patients. The levels of oxytocin were found to be lower in the obese patients with Type 2 diabetes than in the normal weight patients with normal blood glucose levels. Identify the manipulated and responding variable(s) in the study by placing the number of the type of variable in the blank. Manipulated Responding Number: Answer Answer Answer Variable: Patients with Normal Blood Glucose Level of Oxytocin Patients with Type 2 diabetesarrow_forward
- In the experiment of the impacts of sedative and hypnotic acivities in MEJP leaves, does the different behavioral models in mice are the independent variables while the amount of dosage is the dependent variables?arrow_forwardWhat do these results suggest about the role of PKA in insects that are always gregarious? Insects that are always gregarious show an aberrant PKA activation cycle. PKA plays a role in modifying behavior patterns, but not in establishing the patterns. Gregarious insects do not express the PKA protein. PKA affects behavior only in solitary insects.arrow_forwardHow is the “NOR score” calculated for an animal? (i.e., monkey or rat)arrow_forward

How confident would you be in their research if they only studied 60 individuals? Would you change your view if you knew they studied 724 individuals? How about if they increased their subjects to 10,000 individuals? Explainarrow_forwardIn some cases, males or females do care for young of their own species that are not their own, as when certain male fish take over and protect egg masses being brooded by other males or when female ducks acquire ducklings that have just left someone else’s nest. Propose alternative hypotheses to explain this phenomenon. Under what circumstances might adoptions actually raise the caregiver’s reproductive success? Under what other circumstances might adopters help nongenetic offspring as a cost of achieving some other goal? Don't write from any online source..arrow_forward
- Please help me with this question within an hour?? Will appreciate your help??arrow_forwardIn a recent experiment, participants were to take 7,000 steps per day. Group A received a payment of $1.40 per day if they achieved the goal. Group B received a lump sum payment of $42; $1.40 was deducted daily for each day they did not achieve their goal. At the end of the experiment, Group B was significantly more successful in achieving the 7,000 steps per day. Upon which of the following behavioral economics concepts was this experiment based? O Setting defaults O Doing the right thing O Creating anchors O Loss aversionarrow_forwardA researcher reads a news report about a high prevalence of diabetes among children residing in under resourced neighborhoods. The researcher wants to conduct a study to understand risk factors for diabetes in this population. They design a randomized controlled trial where children will be assigned to one group in which they are given 8 glasses of sugar sweetened beverages (SSB) per day (treatment group) and one group in which they are given 8 glasses of water per day (control group). The researcher goes to elementary schools in under resourced neighborhoods and approaches children as they are leaving the campus to tell they they have to participate in the study. The students are not told anything about the potential risks or benefits of study participation and are not compensated for being in the study. Drinking 8 glasses of water per day is known to be better for health compared to drinking 8 glasses of SSB per day. Because one treatment is already known to be more…arrow_forward
