To review:

The reason for ketoacidosis as a common feature of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, but not of insulin-independent diabetes mellitus.

Introduction:

Diabetes mellitus isa group of metabolic diseases that are caused viaan insufficient supply of insulin in the body. There are two major forms of diabetes, namely Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1(insulin-dependent diabetes) is an autoimmune disease caused via the destruction of pancreatic β-cells, which are responsible for the production of insulin. Type 2 (insulin-independent diabetes) is caused by the insensitivity shown by the target tissues toward insulin due to some defect in insulin receptors.
