Answer to Problem 9LC
Gases do not have fixed shapes and size
Explanation of Solution
A state of matter known as gas lacks both a definite shape and a fixed volume. Gases have a lower density than other forms of matter like solids and liquids. There is a lot of vacant space between particles since they have a lot of kinetic energy and aren't strongly attracted to one another.
Since the molecules in gases are relatively loosely packed, they have large intermolecular gaps, and as a result, they move around, gases lack a clear structure or volume. Gases can take on any shape or volume since there is a relatively weak force of attraction between molecules.
