Bayfield Mud Company case. The text Quantitative Analysis of Management (Pearson, 2015) presents the case of the Bayfield Mud Company. Bayfield supplies boxcars of 50-pound bags of mud treating agents to the Wet-Land Drilling Company. Mud treating agents are used to control the pH and other chemical properties of the cone during oil drilling operations. Wet-Land has complained to Bayfield that its most recent shipment of bags were underweight by about 5%. (The use of underweight bags may result in poor chemical control during drilling, which may hurt drilling efficiency, resulting in serious economic consequences.) Afraid of losing a longtime customer, Bayfield immediately began investigating their production process. Management suspected that the causes of the problem were the recently added third shift and the fact that all three shifts were under pressure to increase output to meet increasing demand for the product. Their quality-control staff began randomly sampling and weighing six bags of output each hour. The average weight of each sample over the last 3 days is recorded along with the weight of the heaviest and lightest bags in each sample. These hourly data are saved in the MUDBAG file. Does it appear that management’s suspicion about the third shift is correct? Explain?

For this purpose, he made observations in a randomly chosen 6 days for a store and observed the number of daily customers and the revenue (1000 TL). The personally created data set for the x and y variables is included in the attached “Homework data” file. - The data used is from college campuses. The variables used in the analysis below include: crime, total campus crime; enroll, total enrollment; police, employed officers. Use the estimated OLS models to answer the questions below: Model A: In(crime) = -6.631 + 1.270ln(enroll), (1.034) (.110) .5804 n = 97; R² = Model B: In(crime) = -4.794+.923ln(enroll) +.516ln(police), (.144) (.149) (1.112) n = 97; R² = .632 Using Model A, test the null hypothesis that elasticity of crime with respect to enrollment is unit elastic, i.e. equal to one (against a two-sided alternative). What is the conclusion of your test using a significance level of .01? The design and variety has been fairly constant over the last three years. The managers at Fiske are planning for some changes in the product line next year, but first they want to understand better the relation between activity and factory costs as experienced with the current products. The study consisted of 8 companies and the data is given below and is in units of $1000s (ie. 2.4 = $2400.00) d. What is the resulting residual value when advertising expenditure is $2200.00 (X = 2.2), that is the difference between the actual observed value of y and the predicted value of y when using the fitted regression equation? e.
