Ambiance of 5-star hotels. Although invisible and intangible, ambient conditions such as air quality (x1), temperature (x2), odor/aroma (x3), music (x4), noise level (x5). and overall image (x6) may affect guests' satisfaction with their stay at a hotel. A study in the Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management (Vol. 24, 2015) was designed to assess the effect of each of these ambient factors on customer satisfaction with the hotel (y). Using a survey, researchers collected data for a sample of 422 guests at 5-star hotels. All variables were measured as an average of several 5-point questionnaire responses. The results of the multiple regression are summarized in the table on the next page.
- a. Write the equation of a first-order model for hotel image (y) as a
function of the six ambient conditions.Table for Exercise 12.9
- b. Give a practical interpretation of each of the β-estimates shown.
- c. A 99% confidence interval for β6 is (.350, .576). Give a practical interpretation of this result.
- d. Interpret the value of adjusted R2.
- e. Is there sufficient evidence that the overall model is statistically useful for predicting hotel image (y)? Test using α = .01.

- A research study was conducted at a local college collecting data on the models (brands) of cars parked in the student parking lot. This type of data collected would be considered/described as Qualitative Data or Quantitative Data?arrow_forwardA recent study on driving behavior examined whether the combination of high driving skills and low safety skills is dangerous. Participants were classified as high or low in driving skill based on responses to a driver-skill inventory, then classified as high or low in safety skill based on responses to a driver-aggression scale. An overall measure of driving risk was obtained by combining several variables such as number of accidents, tickets, tendency to speed, etc. The following data were obtained. Use a 2 x 2 ANOVA with the .05 significance level to evaluate the results. What cutoff score(s) should be used? Driving Skill Low High Safety Skill Low M1=5 M2=4.5 S1=2.7 S2=3.8 N1=6 N2=6 HIgh M3=3 M4=3.5 S3=2.9 S4=2.5 N3=6 N4=6 Group of answer choices +4.35 +3.40 +3.49 +4.26arrow_forwardA recent study on driving behavior examined whether the combination of high driving skills and low safety skills is dangerous. - A survey of high school students was done to examine whether students had ever driven a car after consuming a substantial amount of alcohol (1=yes, 0=no). Data was collected on their sex (male/female), race (White/non-White), and grade level (9,10,11,12). Researchers realized that the impact of race on consuming alcohol before driving might vary by grade level and decided to fit the following model. Variable Coding = 1 if Intercept Sex () Female Race () Black Grade level ( 9th grade 10th grade 11th grade [Reference = 12th grade] Attached is the logistic model 1.
