PSY 302 Spring B Module 3 Video Analysis Shelly Taylor April 5, 2023 1. How does early childhood development affect health in adulthood? Implications? A harsh family environment in early childhood causes health issues as adults. In early childhood if there is abuse, any kind such as physical or sexual then the child will be an adult with health complications as well as their potential of coping will be delayed or non-existent. A lower socioeconomic childhood can also create health issues as an adult. A harsh early environment causes exaggerated responses to stress, longer term chronic stress, avoidant of coping. 2. How does social support influence people’s experience with stressors? Social support positively influences people’s experience with stressors. The studies that were done reflected the participants who were counting backwards in harassing environments were not greatly affected by the negative behavior. People whom had social support brain didn’t respond to stress the same way as someone who doesn’t have social support. 3. Explain the relationship she described between genes and social support? Social support positively affected genes and the effects of genes were not predominate because of the environment of positive social support cultivated a healthier person. Genes do play a role in health, however if the person has a protective environment, even those genes will not dominate. Social support can also be cognitive therapy which would allow coping skills and hence fight off negative response to stressors.
