PSY 302 Spring B Module 3 Readings Essay Walker - Chapter 3 1. Explain how anxiety can influence performance. Hembree conducted a study which resulted in finding a negative correlation between test anxiety and academic performance (Walker et al., 2014 p.47-48). Seipp and Chapell studies reflected high levels of stress were linked to lower grade point averages for all age groups (Walker et al., 2014 p.48). Walker concluded by saying anxiety didn’t help students by creating a bigger want or behavior of studying more, but negatively affected them by making them feel fearful so much so that they didn’t change their behavior. These students remained at low levels because of their fear and did not overcome their fears / anxiety (Walker et al., 2014 p.48). Cameron - Chapter 3 2. What are “Positive-energy Networks” and how can they influence leadership? Positive-energy networks are people are supportive, have a motivating essence, they make people feel good, they are cheerful and not selfish and they influence leadership by creating positive environment that the person receiving the support can thrive in (Cameron, 2012 p.53). The person who is considered a positive-energy network is beneficial to not only to the organization, but to the entire staff by creating an environment where people feel safe enough to succeed. (Cameron, 2012 p.54) These type of people have positively influenced organizations to be more successful because the employees work better together when they feel supported and interpersonal relationships are healthy at work.
