PSY 302 Spring B Module 4 Readings Essay April 10, 2023 Walker- Chapter 4 1. Describe Walker’s “Fading Affect Bias” and how that can relate to leadership. Walker’s “Fading Affect Bias,” (Walker et al., 2014 p.72) is that positive emotions stay longer in the memory and negative emotions fade away faster. This theory is true for healthy coping and the older events faded quicker and negative emotions faded faster than positive emotions. This can relate to leadership by providing a positive working environment for daily work will result in positive memories for work and those memories that were negative will fade away. For example, if there was an incident at work, the person can forget because the negative was just one event and not a continued event (Walker et al., 2014 p.72). Cameron - Chapter 4 2. Explain how “Positive Communication” relates to top performing management teams. Positive Communication relates to top performing management teams by the ratio of positive statements being higher than negative statements (Cameron, 2012 p.64). The top ratio was 5.6 positive to 1 negative ratio was the highest performing team (Cameron, 2012 p.64). The way high performing teams communicated is different as well (Cameron, 2012 p.67) because high performing organizations said positive statements such as compliments opposed to organizations that didn’t. Even though all organizations have to provide correction, criticism, and confrontation, it is not necessary that it is done negatively (Cameron, 2012 p.68). Due to positive feedback or conversations even though they could be thought provoking such as requesting behavior change can be said in a positive manner to create a positive outcome (Cameron, 2012 p.67) .
