Name of the Student 1 Name of the Student Name of the Professor Porter’s Five Force Analysis on Infosys 07 th November, 2023
Name of the Student 2 Porter’s Five Force Analysis for Infosys Bargaining Power of Buyers (High): The buyers or the clients for Infosys are the typical large organisations like Apple, AmEx, Capital Grp, Edison and Aetna (Phadnis). Therefore, these large organisations are having higher bargaining power as there are multiple number of same service providers within the sector. This makes the buyers to have the power of demanding customised solutions, high quality services and competitive price (Meena, Shrotryia and Singh). Bargaining Power of Suppliers (Low): The suppliers in this industry face a low to moderate bargaining power. Considering the IT services, the primary inputs are the skilled professionals and the technical infrastructure. The regions where there is shortage of IT talents may have high bargaining power. However, as there is option of multi-sourcing and the broader availability of technology nullifies the power of suppliers. Threats of Substitutes (Moderate): Infosys may not possess any direct threats for the IT services they are providing to their clients. However, the organisation must incorporate continuous innovation process within their operation so that they has the capability to nullify the modern threat of automation and artificial intelligence. Therefore, the threat of substitutes becomes moderate with the advancement of automation and artificial intelligence. Threats of New Entrants (Low): The Information Technology sector possesses high entry barriers for the new organisation. This sector demands substantial amount of investments in the initial phase for establishing a competitive technical infrastructure, acquisition of new talents and setting up of R&D department. Moreover, organisations like Infosys which are established get advantages from economies of scale. This makes a huge challenge for the new organisation to take new entry within this industry and match the cost structure with the giants. Competitive Rivalry (High): .There are several competitors for Infosys which induces a high competitive rivalry for the organisation. The IT service industry has several domestic as well as global players. These organisations have high market share. Therefore, Infosys faces high competition from organisation like CTS, IBM, WIPRO, TCS and Accenture. It is also seen that there is price wars due to high competition resulting in pressing the margin of profit.
