Carbon Mitigation Through Best Management Practices Assignment Description: Throughout this microcredential, you will engage in an evaluation of your organization’s current practices and develop an actionable plan to reduce its carbon footprint. The assessment is divided into three parts to facilitate ongoing feedback from the instructor and allows you to be able to pace your learning and progress effectively towards your final action plan. Part 1- Preliminary Evaluation and Identification of Improvement Areas Conduct a preliminary evaluation of your organization's current practices by analyzing data, processes, and activities that contribute significantly to your organization’s carbon footprint. Discuss the impact and significance of these existing practices on your organization’s carbon emissions based on what you’ve learned in the microcredential so far. In preparation for part 2, identify key areas upon which your organization might reduce their carbon emissions. You will not receive a separate grade for part 1, but you will receive feedback from the instructor to help you proceed to the next stages effectively. Part 2 - Action Plan Outline: Short-Term and Long-Term Planning Building upon your evaluation and feedback from the instructor, submit an outline of your customized action plan. List the identified areas for improvement and consider both short-term and long-term strategies to reduce the carbon footprint. Alongside each strategy, provide a clear rationale explaining why you believe this approach is effective. Your rationale should demonstrate a deep understanding of the carbon mitigation principles learned in the microcredential and how they apply to your organization's context. Ensure your strategies are feasible, align with organizational goals, and incorporate best management practices and industry benchmarks relevant to your context. You will not receive a separate grade for part 2, but the feedback will guide you in shaping your final action plan in part 3 that will be graded. Part 3 - Final Action Plan and Consideration of Carbon Reduction Impact For your final submission, integrate parts 1 and 2 into a comprehensive action plan taking into consideration all areas of improvement suggested by your instructor in their feedback on parts 1 and 2. Your action plan should encompass all relevant areas of operation, address the identified improvement areas, and propose practical and realistic measures to achieve significant carbon reduction. Additionally, complete part 3 with a thoughtful discussion of how your proposed strategies might impact carbon reduction. Discuss appropriate tools or methodologies for estimation, showcasing your ability to consider potential outcomes. This final submission will receive a grade assessing your ability to synthesize your understanding and planning into a cohesive and effective action plan. Grading and Feedback: Your instructor will provide constructive feedback for the first two submissions to guide your progress and help you improve your evaluation and action plan development. Feedback will focus on strengths, areas for improvement, and suggestions for enhancing your work building towards the final submission of part 3. Part 3 is the summative assessment for this microcredential and will be assessed using the rubric provided. The rubric consists of 5 criteria for different levels of performance: Achieved , In Progress , and Not observed . You are encouraged
to refer to the rubric and use it as a guide to ensure your final submission meets the required standards. To receive your digital badge for this microcredential, you must reach Achieved for all 5 criteria. If your final action plan receives an In Progress grade for one or more of the criteria in the summative assessment, don't worry! This is an opportunity for growth and improvement. You'll receive detailed feedback to guide your improvements. You will have the chance to resubmit your revised action plan again. The summative assessment aims to evaluate your understanding and application of carbon mitigation strategies, critical evaluation of current practices, and the ability to develop practical and effective solutions for carbon footprint reduction within your business or industry. Should you have any questions, require clarification, or would like further feedback on your submissions, please don't hesitate to reach out to your instructor. Rubric: Achieved: meets the standards required to pass the given criteria In Progress: shows effort but needs improvement in order for you to resubmit the plan and attempt to achieve a passing grade. Not Observed: criterion not addressed or demonstrated. Criteria ACHIEVED IN PROGRESS NOT OBSERVED Evaluation and Identification of Improvement Areas Evaluates the organization’s current carbon footprint. Demonstrates limited understanding of best management practices and industry benchmarks, resulting in incomplete application in the action plan outline. Proposes strategies that are impractical or not adequately considered for feasibility. Needs to improve feasibility of proposed strategies.
