Dear self, I am proud of you. I am proud to wake up daily and say I am you. I am proud of everything that you have accomplished in the past decade. I am impressed with the woman you have become and are still evolving into. You are kind, strong, and the embodiment of resilience. You are the joy that radiates from the sun, the versions of us that realize we are not the moon but the sun. You no longer reflect a glimpse of light from others. You are the light. You are the answer to the past, prayers, and hopes of our future. You are from Anson, a place that changed and defined you in every way possible. Anson was the catalyst for who you are now. When people ask you where you are from, you smile and start to reminisce on the small county an hour outside of Charlotte that does not have a Walmart. And when they ask why you do not live there anymore, you respond, “You are like birds, even you have to leave the nest eventually.” I do not know where you live now. That's the adventure of life. I trust your judgment. I am certain where you end up, you are happy. That's my only aspiration for you when everything is said and done. You are 27 now; if you are anything like the 17-year-old version, you are motivated by outcomes. You have almost reached the primary outcome you have been working for as long as you can remember. You are on the verge of becoming an Attending Physician! How does that feel? Are you still as enamored with your field of work as I am? I know this may seem like an end to a goal you have worked for practically your whole life, but it is not. On the contrary, it is the beginning of a new purpose. It is the part of life where you get to make that change you want to see in healthcare. I hope you always remember you are enough and that anything is possible.
