Unit 1 Journal Family resilience to me is when a family is able to help each other cope and manage through hard times and challenges throughout their lives. I believe that a lot of situations in a family’s lifespan can account for promoting or inhibiting resilience within each other. This can include small instances such as a parent choosing to let their toddler fall and pick themselves up or hold their hand through the process as they learn to walk. The systems that can impact a family’s ability to be resilient include psychological, social, and financial systems. A family’s psychological system impacts their resilience because it can be argued that a family whose members are psychologically secure will be more likely to be able to handle difficulties versus families who aren’t (Burgess et al., 2018). A family’s social system can also either positively or negatively impact them depending on the type and amount of social support they have. This can also be said regarding a family’s financial system as well as if they have access to financial resources to help benefit their resilience.
