Unit 3 Discussion Adversity refers to a state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). Families going through adversity may also be living in vulnerable communities. Living in vulnerable communities can contribute to a family’s ability to foster resilience because they may lack the resources or tools to help build or strengthen their resilience. Experiencing risk and adversity can threaten developmental competence (Herbers et al, 2020). One physiological need that I believe must be met in order for a family to have a chance at developing resilience is shelter. Without proper access to certain physiological needs such as shelter, families may face significant barriers in life (Ginn et al, 2017). One of the organizations in my community that provides services to address homelessness is Bridge Communities. This organization works to facilitate self-sufficiency in families facing homelessness by providing services such as mentoring, housing, and supportive services (Bridge Communities, n.d.). Bridge Communities works with multiple different partners to provide programs and services such as case management, housing, family wellness, counseling, and more. References Bridge Communities.
