Question
Chapter 8.2, Problem 5RQ
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
Formulas of strong acid and strong base must be given along with chemical equation for the formation of KCl in an aqueous solution.
Concept Introduction:
Strong acid and a strong base react to produce salt and water.
Expert Solution & Answer

Answer to Problem 5RQ
The strong acid is hydrochloric acid (HCl) and the strong base is potassium hydroxide (KOH).
Explanation of Solution
Formation of KCl from HCl and KOH is shown below.
In this reaction, HCl and KOH neutralize each other to produce the salt (KOH) and water. KOH being a strong electrolyte will dissociate in an aqueous solution producing the corresponding ions which are K+ (aq) and Cl-(aq).
Conclusion
Strong acid and strong base for KCl formation are HCl and KOH.
