Concept explainers
Interpretation :
The meaning of a salt to be slightly soluble in water needs to be explained. Whether there is practical difference between slightly soluble and insoluble must be explained.
Concept Introduction :
Sparingly soluble salt or slightly soluble salt are those which have very less solubility.
Answer to Problem 7A
The slightly soluble salt means that the solubility of the salt is very less.
There is no practical difference between slightly soluble and insoluble.
Explanation of Solution
Some salts are there which are partly soluble in water. Solubility products of these salts are very less and so ionic products can easily overcome the solubility product and leads to precipitation. Little part of the salt is in solution.
Practically there is no difference between slightly soluble or insoluble salts as the amount is too less which is in solution for slightly soluble salts. This is comparable with insoluble salts.
“Slightly” soluble salt means less soluble salt. There is no practical difference between slightly soluble and insoluble salts.
