The flowchart is the diagram that represents a step by step process of the tasks using various symbols and shapes, and the tasks are connected through the arrows.

The shapes used to represent the flowchart are as follows:

  • The diamond shape is used to represent the selection structure condition in a flowchart, and it is also called the decision symbol.
    • The condition is placed inside the diamond symbol; the result of the condition can be either “true” or “false”.
    • The diamond has two flow-lines. To differentiate the “true” path from the “false” path, it can be marked with T (True) and F (False).
  • The oval shape is used to represent the start/stop symbol in a flowchart.
  • The parallelogram shape is used to represent the input/output symbol in a flowchart.
  • The rectangle shape is used to represent the process symbol in a flowchart.
