Gene is the biological unit of heredity which holds the information to build and maintain their cells and pass genetic traits to offspring. In cells, a gene is a portion of DNA.
Putative gene is a segment of DNA whose protein and its function is unknown.
Genome is the full complement of genetic information in a cell, and contains the program required for that cell to function.
The HGP (Human Genome Project) was an international research effort to determine the sequence of the human genome and identify the genes that it contains.
