Chapter 20, Problem 4SQ
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus under retroviral subgroup classification that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) infection in humans. It is an RNA virus that possesses RNA as its genetic material. HIV consists of ssRNA that transcribes into dsDNA (using reverse transcriptase enzyme) when it is integrated into the host cell, using its replication machinery. After being transformed to DNA, the viruses produce proteins that are required for the synthesis of new viral particles.
