Chapter 20, Problem 3SQ
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
A virus that infects a bacterium is called as a bacteriophage. They resemble viruses in case of structure, mode of reproduction, and genetic material. Like viruses, they have either DNA or RNA as the genetic material and can follow the lytic or lysogenic mode of reproduction. They infect and release out by bursting the host cell (lytic phage) or remain and multiply inside the host cell without destroying them (lysogenic phage).

Why are encapsolated bacteria generally more pathogenic than un-capsolated strains.
a. Because capsule allows the organism to hide in the body of the host.
b. because the capsule causes the phagocyte to mutate c. because the capsule protects bacteria from host immune cells
d. because the capsule kills the phagocytes
e. because the capsule stimulates a potent immune response in the host.
