The process of spore formation occurs in the bacteria during harsh environmental conditions. Different sets of genes are expressed in the forespore or the developing endospore and the mother cell by the consequent activation of four different sigma factors. Endospores are highly resistant bodies that are produced by certain Gram-positive bacteria.
