Summary Introduction
The majority of iron reducing bacteria is capable of using various terminal acceptors apart from ferric ion. A distinguishing character of these iron reducers is their ability to grow under anaerobic conditions. Most of the species grow anaerobically by the reduction of ferric iron using hydrogen or organic compounds (simple) as the electron donor.
