Summary Introduction
The majority of the sulfur oxidizing bacteria are autotrophic in nature. Some of the inorganic forms of sulfur such as sulfide and elemental sulfur can be used by chemolithotrophs for their survival, growth, and reproduction. The oxidation of sulfur is generally accompanied with a reduction of nitrate and oxygen.
