Concept explainers
To find: The best central tendency that school should use to show students read a lot of books.
Answer to Problem 22STP
The school will represent the Mean value, to show students read a lot of books.
Explanation of Solution
Giveninformation:
Consider the number of books read by the students in each reading classes.
104 | 90 |
162 | 134 |
110 | 97 |
145 | 126 |
Let's arrange the data in ascending order to calculate the central tendencies.
90, 97, 104, 110, 126 , 134, 145, 162.
Now calculate the Mean, Median and Mode of the data values.
Mean is the sum of data values divided by number of observations.
Median is the middle value of data sorted from least to greatest .
Hence median is 118.
As there is no repetitive value in the data hence there will be no mode.
Hence school will represent the Mean value, to show that students read a lot of books.
To show the lots of books read school will represent the maximum central tendency which has maximum value. And as mean has the maximum value, hence it will be used.
