The various kinds of interactions that bind a molecule are known as intermolecular forces.

These can be dispersion, dipole-dipole, ion-dipole, and hydrogen bonding.

The properties of molecules vary with the packing of particles and the strength of the intermolecular forces present in a molecule. On the basis of packing, two physical properties of solids and liquids are observed. These are compressibility and diffusion.
