Discussion Thread Obesity is a big problem not just in the United States but globally. This is a serious health problem that has its challenges. I think that the most important is that parents do not recognize it. People will think their kids are in good health but in reality, they are developing obesity over time. Also when kids become obese they are most likely to develop to suffer from bad comments from adults and other kids. According to (Sizer & Whitney, 2019) “Adults discriminate against them, and peers make thoughtless comments  or reject them based on their physical appearance.” They will not only suffer from bullying and emotional problems, but they will also develop serious health problems. Due to parents not recognizing obesity in their kids, those kids will develop chronic diseases. Obesity can cause so many problems like High blood pressure, asthma, breathing difficulties, heart diseases, type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases.  According to (Sizer & Whitney, 2019) “An estimated 85 per cent of children with type 2 diabetes are obese.” Those chronic diseases can be mortal if not treated.  Obesity can start because kids eat too much fast food, sweets and they do not practice any physical activity. Also, food advertising to children contributes a lot to obesity. Many companies have their products appear on games ads making kids want it. For example, my little nephew wants everything that he sees on his games. All those products are sweet beverages. To address this problem the first thing that should be done is making parents understand and know that their kids are developing obesity. Also adding a healthy diet, practising some physical activity can help a lot. (Sizer & Whitney, 2019) mentioned that “A general rule for treating overweight children is “lifestyle changes first; medications later, if at all.” Parents should do physical activities first instead of using medication.   References Sizer, F.S. & Whitney E.
