Briefly describe the following models of institutional control presented in your textbook: Control model. Responsibility model. Consensual model. Compare and contrast the effectiveness of each model as a form of institutionalization. Analyze a criminal justice issue that relates to at least one of the three models. Hello Everyone, The control model's main objective is to keep control and the rules of a prison in order. These tasks are done by the correctional officers only and they establish what inmates need to do daily (Stojkovic & Lovell, 2019). On the other hand, the responsibility model dictates that inmates should be responsible for their daily lives as long as it does not interfere with a prison’s security and in the consensual model, prisoners are given the opportunity to engage with the decision making of the prison (Stojkovic & Lovell, 2019). The control and responsibility model seem to be the best option for prisons because the control model maintains discipline and order it may seem a bit harsh but if someone is in prison it’s because they are there for a crime they have committed and some of their freedom rights should be taken away. I also believe the responsibility model can help inmates learn about themselves since they can control their lives more with it and plan what they would like to do on a daily basis. The consensual model seems to be a little too lenient and less effective because they are allowing inmates to basically take charge of the prison which could potentially have an impact on the correctional officers because if inmates “make decisions” they can easily feel like they can threaten staff. A criminal justice issue that relates to the consensual model would be gang violence. If inmates are allowed to take charge in a prison, then the amount of violence or gang violence could increase making prisoners feel unsafe and targeted by other inmates. Stojkovic, S., & Lovell, R.
