2 For the assignment submission in Module five, my questions did not specifically focus on the death penalty, but rather the impact that social media platform users are subjected to and the laws and regulations which regulates those social platforms. So, for this assignment I will use the questions that would specifically address the previous rubric and base this assignment from that assignment. 1. Qualitative Research Question: a) Is the death penalty an effective preventive punishment for crime? 2. Quantitative Research Question: b) Which racial group in America account for the highest execution rate by the death penalty sentence? 3. Mixed Methodology Research Question: c) Why are black men more likely to get the death penalty compared to other racial groups? The qualitative collection data process that I would select would choose would be interviews, focus groups and observation methods, and secondary data analysis. For the quantitative data collection methods, I would incorporate surveys, questionnaires, and statistical data from previously published research to establish the statistics on the total group and ethnic
3 disparities in sentencing with different racial groups. The mixed methodology data analysis collection would include, interviews, surveys, data on statistics involving race and the sentencing process and guidelines for a conviction where the defendant gets the death penalty. The qualitative approach to the research question would be descriptive, and conceptual findings through historical artifacts, and interviews. The data needed to answer the quantitative research question would be from statistical data and other sources with numerical data on death penalty sentencing, the number of people who are subjected to the form of punishment, and what the statistical data on the effectiveness of death penalty as a deterrent to crime. The mixed methodology approach would include data process from both qualitative and quantitative approach to add validity to the research whilst encompassing a wider margin for my audience. The characteristics of the selected data collection method that makes them appropriate for each data analysis method is that they get to the core of the questions being asked without causing confusion to the reader and incorporate different mechanisms to getting the questions answered in depth. As it relates to the qualitative data collection method which makes it appropriate data analysis is that the approach is adaptable, and more flexible. Characteristics of the quantitative data collection method which makes it appropriate for research is that they are precise and establish a distinctive and coordinated link between the research and the research question in itself. The characteristics of the mixed method which makes it appropriate for data collection and distribution is that it loans credibility to the research, adds more feasibility in the distribution of the data and interrogative when researching the answers to the research questions. “Qualitative research is multimethod in focus, involving an interpretative, naturalistic approach to its subject matter.” (2019). Since the data method aims to assess thoughts, and feelings it is useful in research to get the participants experience to apply to the study to make the

4 data more relatable. Another benefit to using both qualitative and quantitative methods in research is that they can create awareness in different scenarios with different principles which can entice participants and digest the readers interests. Mixed methods can strengthen the basis of the research questions and create contrasts of experiences for the readers. Each research method has their own unique drawbacks however, when using qualitative methods the approach can be time consuming and more expensive to research, the results sometimes cannot be verified, and not statistically correct. “Qualitative methods do not provide the methods behind participants’ responses.” (Schutt, 2015)
