Module Eight Question 2 Identify places in Claudia's script that you think should be accompanied by visuals. For each place you identify, indicate what kind of information you think she should include on the slide. For example, you may think personal images are appropriate in some places, or that graphs or charts representing data may be helpful in others. I believe that she should use more graphs to show the statistics of incarcerated individuals who get out and re-offend. Then I believe she should have another chart with the statistics of incarcerated individuals that get out and don't re-offend due to the programs offered within the system. I also think that she should have shown personal photo of that family member and their progress since getting out of prison just to show the audience that it is possible. Module Eight Question 3 Choose the remaining 3-5 places in the script where you will incorporate visuals. Briefly note where you will include these visuals, and describe what will appear on the slide. I plan to include several different visuals on various slides. For one slide, I want to have a graph that shows the statistics of crime rates, and how they vary within cities. In another slide, I want to show the influence that race has on incarceration rates. Then I want to have another slide that shows the impact poverty has on incarceration rates, and how it has changed over time due to social media. Module Eight Question 5 Identify opportunities that you have to speak in public and practice these presentation skills, even if not giving a formal presentation. How will using these tips help you communicate your message? I have a few opportunities to speak in public and practice these skills. The main one would be at my job, we have weekly meetings where they at really good at giving everyone a chance to speak, so I can use that opportunity to practice by gathering some information about "issues" related to my job, finding alternative solutions, and voicing that to the team. I believe that would be the best way to get real practice, I could also alway do it in front of family, but I believe that doing it in front of peers would give a more realistic feeling. Module Eight Question 6
Consider all you've learned throughout this course. In your opinion, what are two of the most important concepts or skills you learned that are most relevant to your everyday life? This class has taught me a lot! Especially when it comes to the social science field and how to look at things in the eyes of a social scientist. I believe everyone should take at least one of these classes in their life time, the world would be a better place. It teaches you to look at things that could have caused a person to act/think a certain way instead of "judging a book by its cover". That's the one of the most valuable things I feel like there is to know in life, glad I was able to learn about that in this class. Module Eight Question 7 What did you enjoy most about this course? I enjoyed learning about how someone's environment could ultimately impact their whole life. I think this was one of the most important things that I've learned all year. It's easy to pass judgment when you never experienced the same thing.
